Our Herbal and health food tours take in both Chinatown and Little India.
Starting at 9.45am you will meet your guide at one of Singapore’s most famous Chinese herbal medicine shops. Learn how birds nest, gin seng and natural honey are used to cure various illnesses and strengthen the immune system.
We’ll walk through Chinatown stopping in at local medicinal retailers and discovering various health techniques that have been passed down for centuries. We’ll see strange dried ingredients such as sea horse and learn how it is used in TCM today.
A visit to one of Singapore’s most decadent temples allows us to see how religion and food mix as we try some vegetarian tastes with a local twist.
Onto the local wet market to see how to find the healthy products and what to look for, before heading to Little India either by MRT or taxi (depending on clients wish).
Once at Little India we visit Singapore’s leading Ayurvedic doctor and learn about how herbs and spices are used in Indian medicine. We will then head up to the sky to visit Uncle Sam and one of Singapore’s best examples of Urban farming on the roof of a hospital.
At the farm we can chat to the farmers and see how they manage to grow organic crops in the middle of the city. We’ll get to try the freshest ingredients you can get in the city as we sit down at the farm restaurant for some local snacks made using ingredients harvested that day. This is a great example of how Singapore is trying to reduce its carbon footprint as well as becoming more self sufficient.
Following lunch we’ll take a walk to see the local coconut man and try some thirst quenching coconut juice before ending the tour in the heart of Little India.
The tour does not operate on Monday or Chinese New Year.
